I’M GOING TO AMERICA.
Okay okay, I know it’s a year away, but this is my dream trip and I am SO BLOODY EXCITED.
I have had this trip in the works for at least two and a half years now, but due to different things popping up I have had to rearrange so many times. Then, the best thing ever happened…
I getting a lift home from my Brother, and telling him all about my trip as naturally I was excited to FINALLY have a date in place. I’d recently changed onto a different Trek America tour that would mean I was gone for his 21st Birthday, when we had a brainwave. Why doesn’t he come with me and celebrate his 21st in America?
After that it was pretty much decided, and a few weeks later we were putting down our deposits and making it official!
Why is America such a big deal for me?
I go on lots of trips, however this one means so much more to me because America is one of my favourite places I have visited so far. When I was 19 I decided to do a summer abroad in California and I fell head over heels while I was there, vowing to see as much of the country as I could.
While I was there I got to see a hell of a lot of California, but I didn’t really get to see anything else other than the few days I spent in Boston. Since then, I have made it my mission to go back and see as much I can. Obviously life has got in the way as I haven’t been back, but this Trek America trip is going to be a great way to see SO MUCH more of America.
What is Trek America?
If you’ve never heard of Trek America before – firstly, where have you been? – and secondly, they run small group tours across America (and a few other places). You join a mini bus of travelers and are led across America by your tour leader. With tours covering the West Coast, East Coast, Mid West or going completely cross country, you definitely have the chance to find something that includes the places you most want to visit.
In fact, my and my Brother haven’t even been on this Trek yet and we’re already planning on doing both a West Coast and Canadian tour in the years to follow.
What Trek America Tour are we doing?
We’re going to be doing the Atlantic Dream tour, which means we’re visiting Philadelphia, Washington DC, Shenandoah National Park, Ocoee, Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans, Destin Beach, Natural Springs, Orlando and Miami.
I’m super excited about all of the destinations, however Nashville and New Orleans are probably the two I am looking forward to most, followed by Orlando – of course.
What are our plans before and after Trek America?
We’re going to be flying into New York (I wish it was with Vista Jet, but a girl can dream right?) a few days beforehand, with the plan to try and fit in as much as we possibly can. We know it won’t be much, but at least we have a little bit of time to explore.
The Trek tour is 14 days in total, ending in Miami, so when that’s over we have decided we’d be foolish not to get a Greyhound up to Orlando and spend some time at Walt Disney World and Universal. We’ve never been before, so it seemed like the perfect excuse to visit the happiest place in the universe. We’re hoping five days is going to be enough to at least visit each park, cross off some of our Disney/Universal bucket list and maybe relax at Volcano Bay for an afternoon. I feel a spreadsheet coming on…
So, the countdown has begun!
