If you’re visiting Paris for a romantic weekend, then you’re going to want to make the most of your time in the French capital. There’s so much to do and see it can be hard to decide on an itinerary - so this guide aims to take all of the confusion and hard work out of it for you.
Below, you’ll find a few suggestions that will give you a memorable trip full of romance:
Take A Relaxing Stroll Together
There’s nothing better in Paris than taking a relaxing stroll with your loved one - in fact, if you want to see Paris in all of its glory, you should attempt to walk as much as you possibly can! You never know what you might find if you walk, even if you get a little bit lost. There’s something magical around almost every corner in Paris. You could even try a romantic cycle if you want to enjoy something a little bit different.
The 19th-century towpaths of the Canal St Martin make the perfect walking or cycling place. This canal runs through one of Paris’ trendiest neighbourhoods, and it is filled with cool shops, bars, and restaurants. You can hold hands or stroll arm in arm, share a tender kiss, or find somewhere to sit and while away the day. There are so many perfect spots that will allow you and your loved ones to show some intimate moments!
Have A Picnic, Paris Style
Parisians love to have picnics, and they’ll do it wherever they deem suitable to just drop down a blanket. Many people like to go to the Pink Flamingo and order a pizza takeaway to be delivered to them at their spot, but you could even just grab some delicious French cheese and wine and make your own picnic. Could there be anything more romantic than overlooking a beautiful river or piece of architecture in Paris and drinking some wine?
Shop For Fun Souvenirs
Don’t forget to have fun shopping for fun souvenirs on your Paris trip. You haven’t experienced Paris unless you’ve been to a few of the flea markets! Here you can purchase unique finds that will remind you of this amazing trip each time you look upon them.
Go On A Coffee Date
You don’t need to enjoy moonlit meals by the Seine or the Eiffel Tower to have a romantic weekend in Paris. In fact, coffee dates are just as good! Head to a cafe and you’ll be able to enjoy one of the city’s famous espressos - made to be sipped, not downed in one. Use the water beforehand to cleanse your palette, and try not to water the coffee down. See if you can taste the difference!
Enjoy The View From The Eiffel Tower
The Eiffel Tower bears witness to a huge number of marriage proposals each year. There are three floors and the 324-meter tall icon has panoramic views of this gorgeous, romantic city. Who wouldn’t want to gaze over the land with a glass of champagne in hand? After dark, the tower sparkles with 20,000 gold lights, making it even more magical and unforgettable. You might think that the Eiffel Tower is a little cliche, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go to it. If you don’t go to it, then at least go somewhere you’ll be able to see it lit up in all of its glory!
Hop In A Boat
Sailing down the Seine on a boat for two or a river cruise will likely be one of your most romantic and fun memories from Paris. A river cruise is great, but two people in a boat is always going to be more fun and memorable. Gliding in your boat you’ll get a wonderful sense of serenity. Afterwards, you could even go through the woods to Jardin Shakespeare where plants, flowers and trees mentioned in Shakespeare’s plays grow. If you go at the right time of year you might even catch a summertime performance in the open-air theatre of the garden. Memorable and magical!
Head To Monet’s Galleries At The Musee De l’Orangerie
There are 2 oval rooms here filled with 8 of Monet’s paintings - his final works and some of the most beautiful and magical. He gifted them to the city of Paris as a symbol of peace on the conclusion of the First World War. You’ll feel like you’re lost in another world when surrounded by these ethereal paintings.
Don’t Miss Oscar Wilde’s Grave
Oscar Wilde’s grave is a must-visit in the city of Paris - although don’t go if you’re planning on planting a kiss on his grave. Many people have done this at his tomb in Pere Lachaise, so in 2011 a ‘kiss wall’ was built to stop people leaving lipstick marks behind. The stonework was jeopardized, apparently! Check out the grave, as well as the graves of many other famous people (including Jim Morrison), and if you feel like kissing someone, kiss your partner.
See The Pont des Arts
The Pont Des Arts was one of the world’s original ‘love lock’ bridge locations but was recently cleared of one million or so locks because they were weighing down the bridge. Needless to say, this would have also jeopardized other famous monuments in the city. The bridge still stands though and crosses the Seine at a beautiful point. It’s one of the most famous bridges in Paris and perfect for a selfie. Don’t be tempted to leave a lock!
Sample The Culinary Delights
When in Paris, you must sample the culinary delights to your heart’s content. The food here is just unbelievable! Taste a Laduree macaron, a freshly baked morning croissant, and lots of different French Fromage. A fresh baguette is also a must - try to buy it in the morning! Pastries, wines, seafood, salami - it’s all delicious. Try to save room for amazing treats as you make your way around. Feeding them to your partner optional.
