Although I don’t drive personally, one of my favourite things about the summer is packing up one of my friends or families cars and going on a road trip with them. I recently published a post on my Ultimate Summer Road Trip Playlist, but in today’s post I thought I would talk more about how to prepare your car for a road trip, as well as the other little things you need to think about before you hit the road.
Making Sure your Car is Safe
One of the most important things you need to do before you leave on any trip, let alone a long journey, is make sure the car is safe to drive. Mishaps can’t be prevented in a lot of cases, but there are lots of things you could do to help prevent them, or to reduce the amount of damage they cause. This includes:
Making sure your car is regularly serviced - A regular service is essential regardless of whether or not you’re taking long trips, but it can definitely help give you peace of mind when it comes to taking a road trip, knowing that your car has already been checked over by professionals. Why not get your car serviced from Iverson Tyres Farnham Common Branch?
Checking your tyres before every long journey - Tyre pressure is a major safety issue, as if you’re tyre pressure is not where it should be, you could not only break down, but could potentially cause an accident. Check them the night before, as well as immediately before your journey, just to be sure. If you’re taking an extra long journey, it’s also worth checking them at service stations along the way to make sure you haven’t caused any slow punctures whilst on the road. If you need new ones in northampton, then book your tyres online at northampton calmac tyres.
Making sure your car batteries are fully charged - There’s nothing worse than breaking down, or being unable to start your car due to a dead battery (I know this from when I was learning in my own car and I’d leave it so long before each lesson that the battery would die EVERY time - jump starting at the start of each lesson was definitely not ideal!). Checking that it is charged and in no danger of dying the night before a long trip is the best way to prevent any surprises the next day. You can Replace your batteries at Jet Wheel Tyre Essex from experts.
Not forgetting to check/change your fluids and filters - making sure everything is topped up and safe before you set off is vital to preventing any mishaps on the road.
Checking everything else in the car is in working order - This could include seat belts, head rests and other important safety features in your car. It’s also worth making sure you have your spare tyre, a jack and any other essentials you may need in case of a break down.
Pack Plenty of Snacks
Road trips are not complete with out snacks are they? Depending on whether or not you’re planning on stopping at service stations along the way, it may be a while before you get to eat, so stock up on drinks, sweets, crisps and whatever takes your fancy. My favourite road trip snack is either Twirl Bites or Haribo, as I definitely have a sweet tooth!
Make a Killer Playlist
I’ve spoke about this in a recent post, but an awesome playlist is key to a fun road trip. Whether you prefer Spice Girls or My Chemical Romance, a playlist that will have you singing along to every song is always so much fun!
