When you travel as much as I do, you develop a bit of a ‘type’ when it comes to hotels.
Gone are the days of me booking into whatever I can find, as I now spend HOURS looking for a hotel, even if it’s just for one night.
I didn’t realise that I had become so picky until it came to booking our hotels for Bali and I spent hours putting together a spreadsheet of the best hotels for our budgets. I had SO MUCH fun and I think I have probably looked at every possible hotel in Bali in the process, but it is worth it for our incredible itinerary!
There were so many different things I was considering when looking at each hotel that I couldn’t actually believe I was so fussy, especially when up until the last year I pretty much spent my life going to Premier Inn hotels.
Admittedly, sometimes price comes into to factor and I have to book based on my budget, but even then I find that there is always something that’s a little more me at the same time as being affordable.
So, what do I look for in a hotel?
⭐️ Quality – Possibly one of the most important things I look for when booking a hotel, and not always something that comes at an incredibly high cost. I’m not talking 5 Star Luxury – although wouldn’t that be nice every once in a while? – just a good quality hotel with good customer service and a clean room.
? Instagramable Decor – If you had told me two years ago that I would be picking my hotels based on whether or not they’d look good on my Instagram feed then I probably would have laughed, now it’s a massive part of the criteria. Not only is it a way for me to create content, but I am also discovering some incredible places by picking this way.
? Comfy Bed – This is a must right? You can tell by looking at photos whether a bed is going to be terrible, but it also helps to read the reviews.
? Breakfast – Depending on whether or not I want to get breakfast while I am out and about (I LOVE exploring brunch places while travelling) I look at whether or not the breakfast is included in the price. I’ve had some incredible hotel breakfasts, so I definitely check Instagram or Trip Advisor to see what they’re like.
? Nice Bathroom – Is there anything worse then going to a hotel, opening the bath room door and finding the bathroom is an absolute state? I’m talking old decor, dirty and just not at all what you expected. I love bathrooms like these grey suites from Bathroom City, so hotels should definitely take note. ?
? Location, Location, Location – I don’t always need a hotel to be in the centre of where I am staying but it’s always handy if it has good transport links!
? Extra Facilities – Depending on how long I am staying, hotels that have extra facilities are so important – especially for a warm, sunny location. I love hotels that have a pool, spa facilities and a decent bar.
? Character/Quirk – This is the most important thing for me as I love a quirky hotel that has a bit of character. Whether it’s in the decor, the hotel theme or by activities and facilities they host at the hotel. I really loved my stays at Amsterdam Teleport Hotel and 25 Hours Hotel as they were some of the most interesting places I’ve stayed, making me want to stay at more places like this…
