I am not sure if I have mentioned if before on my blog but I am absolutely petrified of going on boats! If it’s a river or lake I am usually okay because I know I can swim to land if I needed to, but being out on the open sea water scares me so much. As much as I love being on the beach and staring out at the horizon, going any further terrifies me.
Can’t I just be like Moana?
That being said, I REALLY want to get over my fear and do a cruise.
I feel like it’s something everyone has to do at least once in their life and it’s such a great way to see so many great places at once, right? I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get over my fear of being on a boat on the open sea, but if I was going to do it, I want to do it right.
As I’ve been thinking about conquering my fear so much lately, I thought I’d put together a list of winter cruises I could perhaps consider for the end of this year, beginning of next. The questions is, do I start small or go all out?
Hull – Amsterdam
Starting small would probably be the smartest thing to do, but I tend not to do things by halves. If I was to book myself a mini Winter cruise I would definitely consider booking a Hull to Amsterdam cruise, specially as there is always a cruise deal available on them. I’ve been to Amsterdam before and it was such a fun trip, that I think going back again would be a great starter trip for a cruise. You never know, it might help my find my sea legs.
Southampton – San Francisco
Definitely going a little further afield now, but whenever I look at cruises one that stands out to me is a Southampton to San Francisco trip. Visiting Fort Lauderdale, Aruba, Columbia, Costa Rica, Cabo and San Francisco makes this the ULTIMATE trip for a bit of sun, culture and city exploring. Literally everything I love about travelling (almost). At a whopping 27 nights I’d DEFINITELY need to get over my fear and fast…
Southampton – Singapore
Again, this is a longer cruise at 33 nights, but I can’t get over all the incredible places you get to visit. The Southampton to Singapore winter cruise stops at some amazing ports including Athens, Dubai, Doha, Sri Lanka, Phuket, Penang and Singapore. I feel like this is the kind of cruise you do to celebrate something big – an anniversary, honeymoon or 50th birthday maybe?
Norway and Northern Lights
I feel like this is the ultimate winter cruise as you’re visiting some of Europe’s most popular destinations. Leaving from and ending at Southampton and stopping off at Andalsnes, Tromso, Alta and Stavanger, this 12 night cruise is perfect for winter.
Have you been on a cruise before? Send me words of encouragement so I can finally be brave enough to face my fears!
