8 Ways to Kill Time at the Airport

March 24, 2018

I remember when gong to the airport used to be a really exciting feeling. The pre-holiday excitement always go the better of me and I was like a little kid running riot in a sweet shop.

Although I still LOVE going to the airport because yay traveling, it’s just not as exciting as it used to be when I have been a million and one times before.

Lately I have found myself becoming more and more prepared for the hours and hours of waiting around whilst, so I thought I’d share some of my top things to do to kill time at the airport.

8 Ways to Kill Time at the Airport

? Start your Holiday Reading Early – Whenever I am going away and I know I will have the time to do some reading, I pack a couple of books. Waiting around at the airport is a great time to get an early start on your holiday to be read pile. Anything to make the time until your flight go quicker, right?

? Do some Writing – This won’t necessarily apply to everyone, but I find it so relaxing to do writing while I am travelling. I feel so much more inspired, especially if it’s right after I come back from a trip. Whether you like to write down your thoughts in a journal, get a few blog posts planned and written or whether your a poet or author, writing could be the perfect way to kill some time.

? Shop in Duty Free – Duty Free can be a bit hit and miss but it is always worth seeing if you can get any bargain while you’re there. I usually tend to go for either alcohol, chocolate or makeup, especially when I have some leftover currency from my trip when coming back.

? Grab a Bite to Eat (or go on an Airport Pub Crawl) – Getting a cheeky pint at the airport used to be the first thing I’d do once I through security, however lately I tend to avoid the expensive prices and save my money for my destination. If this is what you like to do there’s no harm in putting the world to rights over a couple of drinks while you wait for your gate to open.

? Spend Time People Watching – Anyone else love sitting there watching all the people go by or is it just me? I love trying to guess where they are going and why, making up interesting back stories for them (I’m such a loser).

? Play Games on Your Phone (or on the Airport Consoles) – If I am not trying to save my phone battery (I ALWAYS forget a portable charger) I usually spend a bit of time in the airport playing on games on my phone. I don’t know what it is about mobile games but I find them so addictive. Browse these sites for some ideas of what you can play.

Charles de Gualle airport in Paris actually has PlayStation 4’s and XBOX One consoles you can play on, it’s so cool!

? Stream Movies or TV on your Laptop – If you’ve got your laptop or tablet with you and you can connect to WiFi, streaming TV and movies is a great way to pass time. I always find it makes it go so much quicker if you sit there binge watching your favourite show, mainly because you don’t realise how much time is passing!

? Plan your Trip – Obviously this only works if you are heading out on your trip rather than coming back – but the time spent in the airport is a great time to start researching things you want to do and putting a plan together.

What do you do to kill time at the airport?

I always start my reading early, and I’m normally half way through my first book before we even board the plane – I normally get through three or four books on holiday, so I like to hit the ground running! I tend to spend a lot of my time at airports searching for a plug socket that actually works, worrying that my phone will die before we’ve taken to the air.. ???‍♀️
