If you love to explore the rugged wilderness, breathing in unique landscapes and enjoying different challenges, you will be happy to learn there are an endless array of hiking spots for you to explore.

If you are looking for your next big outdoor adventure, which can put your mind and body to the test while allowing you to breathe in a beautiful backdrop, here are five top hiking destinations to try in 2019.

  1. The John Muir Trail, USA

Those looking for a long-distance hiking trail should certainly consider the John Muir Trail, which was named after the world-famous naturalist and Sierra Club founder. The epic trail is located in the High Sierra backcountry, and you have two options to choose from: the northbound version to Yosemite National Park or the rather strenuous option of heading southbound to Mount Whitney.

Of course, you’ll need a relaxing place to stay near Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks once the trek is over, which is why you should discover the best Vacation Rentals for your needs and budget.

  1. Nakasendo Trail, Japan

The Nakasendo Trail was once part of Japan’s feudal network of highways, as travellers would journey from Kyoto and Tokyo to Nakasendo, while relaxing overnight in the Juku post towns. Nowadays, visitors can walk along various sections of the age-old route throughout the day, exploring forested paths and misty landscapes, before staying in a local inn each night.

It’s one of the most unique and beautiful hiking trails to experience, as you’ll walk through pretty villages and weave through rice fields, and it will take approximately five days to complete.

  1. Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim Hike, USA

Travel across 44 miles on foot when you embark on the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Hike, which will take between four to six days to complete. Here you can enjoy an in-depth look at one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world, which will allow you truly appreciate its vastness and surrounding scenery.

  1. Cordillera Huayhuash Trek, Peru

If you have 11 days to spare and aren’t afraid of high-altitude, the Cordillera Huayhuash trek is the perfect way to explore the great outdoors. You’ll climb your way up 16,000 feet and explore gorgeous mountain peaks, glacial lakes, and traditional Andean culture.

While the hike was deemed dangerous in the past, the Peruvian government has taken the steps to improve both its infrastructure and security measures, which will ensure your safety when embarking on the alpine trek.

  1. West Highland Way, Scotland

The West Highland Way is a 95-mile long-distance path that will take you from the forests of Loch Lomond, through Rannoch Moor and Devil’s Staircase before arriving at the foot of Ben Nevis, which is the perfect way to experience the undiluted beauty of the Scottish Highlands.

The route is ordinarily completed from South to North, as the southern stages are much easier in comparison to the northern states, so they’ll both mentally and physically prepare you for the final stages of the hike.
