Travel Bucket List: My ULTIMATE Bucket List

August 26, 2017

I think I have a severe case of wanderlust.

Every day I am looking at somewhere new to go and figuring out how I can get there as soon as possible.

In fact, one of my most visited websites on my laptop is now Skyscanner. Oops.

My desire to travel as often as possible means I regularly feature travel bucket lists on my blog, including villa destinations, cruises, and UK road trips, however, I have never featured and ULTIMATE list. A list of the places I MUST go at some point in my life, no exceptions.

I’ve put a lot of thought into this list and most of the destinations/experiences are things that are going to cost a little bit more than my average trip – so they’re definitely things I won’t be able to do easily.

The Travel Name Game

I was looking for inspiration for my ultimate bucket list, Flight Centre got in touch and asked if I wanted to try out their Travel Name Game. Essentially, it takes Flight Centre data to find out where the best places for me to go are based on my name. I thought I’d give it a go to see if any of the suggested places were somewhere I’d not considered before, and perhaps something I could add to my list.

All I had to do was enter my first name, click enter and the game would give me the three places ‘Kirsty’s’ book the most. My results were not surprising, as they’re three places that are already pretty high up on my list – Sydney, New York and Auckland.

I’ll start with those three….

Sydney, Australia

I think Australia is probably on most people’s bucket lists, right? I mean, the dream is probably to one day move over there and work for a bit but as that doesn’t look likely any time soon – I’ll stick with a visit there! I’d want to see so much more than Sydney, but I think it’s definitely a good starting point.

New York, USA

New York is my absolute ULTIMATE bucket list destination and it always has been. I actually can’t believe I am 24 and I haven’t crossed this off my list yet, even after a short stint of living in the States. Luckily, I’ll be crossing this one off my list next year on my Trek America trip and I am SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED.

Auckland, New Zealand

New Zealand is one of those places that every time I see photographs of it I swoon. It’s so beautiful! I can imagine it’s an incredible place to just get lost with a camera and see what happens. One day, I’m sure…

Everywhere else…

Hawaii, USA

Hawaii comes in tied first place with New York and it has for as long as I can remember. I don’t know what it is about Hawaii that makes me want to go – the beaches, swimming with pigs, the culture…. Everything about the island fascinates me and I can’t wait to one day visit and never leave.

Machu Picchu, Peru

This is one both me and my boyfriend have been discussing for a long time and when my health is finally up to scratch, we’re planning on going together. It’s out of my comfort zone but definitely something I want to push myself to do more and more, as I don’t want to be held back.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is somewhere I hadn’t really considered until I met my boyfriend, but he’s in love with Japanese culture so this is top of his list for places to visit. He really wants to go and do a two month trip and do the whole of Japan which for, probably isn’t possible. I’ll definitely go over and meet him when he’s in Tokyo though.

Banff, Canada

I struggled to narrow it down to one place in Canada so let’s just say Banff AND EVERYWHERE ELSE. It’s so picturesque and beautiful that I can’t not put it on my list. I think this will be one I cross off ASAP (as in next few years) as I can’t put it off any longer.

Innsbruck, Austria

I have ALWAYS wanted to go on a skiing trip but as someone who has zero coordination, I’m a little apprehensive about whether or not I’d spend the whole time falling over. Given my new sense of adventure, I’ve decided to stop worrying about falling flat on my face and try to live out one of my dream trips. Can you imagine the wooden huts in the snow, hot chocolates by the fire and spending the day on the slopes? THE DREAM. Maybe I should get practicing at somewhere like Chill Factore first?

Bangkok, Thailand

I feel like Thailand is something I should have done whilst I was University and had more time, but it’s still something that is pretty high up on my list of places I have to see. Maybe, if I ever end up working for myself, I’ll go on a longer trip – that way I won’t just be seeing Bangkok.

Honestly, this list could be much longer (I haven’t even got started on RIo, Beijing and so many other incredible places) but if I didn’t cut it down now, I don’t think I’d have stopped writing.

So, which one should I book first?
