The great thing about a Revolut card is that it’s not just for travel. You can also use it for everyday purchases like shopping and groceries. In fact, you get a better exchange rate on transactions made in over 150 currencies than you would with your regular bank card. Plus, there are no hidden fees or commissions when you use your Revolut card.
Why Are Revolut Cards Great For Travellers?
There are lots of different reasons why Revolut cards are great for travellers, all of which I want to share with you! I can’t live without my card while travelling and honestly, I truly believe everyone should have a Revolut in their back pocket!
It’s A Free Travel Card with Absolutely No Hidden Fees
The main reason why Revolut cards are great for travellers is that they’re free. There’s no monthly fee or charge when you load money onto your card, but there is a small loading fee if you use cash in an ATM. It also automatically converts currencies at the best possible rate without any commission fees.
Your Money is Always Safe with the Revolut App
If you’re concerned about security while travelling, don’t worry – your Revolut card comes with built-in security features. You can lock your card instantly if it’s lost or stolen, and you can also set up spending limits to help keep track of your budget. Plus, all transactions are protected by chip and pin technology, and the app comes with a built-in fraud monitoring system.
Top Tip: For extra security, while travelling, use the Revolut virtual card to safely pay for your travel adventures. You can freeze it as soon as you’ve completed your transaction.
You Can Use Your Travel Card to Spend in Over 140 Currencies
It’s super easy to set up your card on the app. You can choose between ten different currencies (GBP, EUR, USD etc.) and you’ll also be able to create an account with either GBP or Euros. Once this is done, it takes just a few seconds for the card to arrive at your door – and you can start spending in no time!
You Can Easily Exchange and Hold up to 31 Currencies with No Commission Charges
In addition to the fact that you can spend in over 140 currencies, there are also no commission fees or exchange rates when exchanging and holding up to 31 different currencies. This is a great way if you plan on using your card for an extended period of time and if you’re planning on moving between countries. The process is super simple too, which is an added bonus!
You Get Free Worldwide ATM Withdrawals with Your Revolut Travel Card
Another great feature that makes the Revolut card stand out from other travel cards is that they include free worldwide ATM withdrawals. This means you don’t have to worry about spending a fortune on fees at different ATMs, which can really add up when using your bank’s card abroad! No more checking *just* how much it’s cost you to withdraw money when you’re travelling!
Top Tip: If you opt for Revolut’s paid-for service the metal card, often doesn’t fit into ATM slots. It won’t happen often, but it’s something to consider if you’re going to be withdrawing cash option.
It’s Free and Super Easy to Top Up Your Card
The process to top up your card is super easy, whether you transfer the money into their from your other banks, or have your wages paid into there. If you want to transfer money to someone else, that’s also super easy. I love the option to add a GIF when sending to another Revolut account. This is my personal favourite 😂
What Currencies Can Revolut Hold?

About Revolut Stays
Not only is Revolut a great travel card, but as of 2021, they’ve also started offering ‘Revolut Stays‘ where if you book a hotel with them, you receive 10% cashback. With bargain B&Bs, hip hotels and luxury lodges, it’s easy to discover and book amazing accommodation worldwide in just a few taps.
With Revolut bill-splitting, you can easily split the cost of your hotel too! Perfect for those travelling with friends or a partner.
Airport Lounge Access (Lounges and Smart Delay)
Another one of my favourite things about Revolut is that you can get discounted airport lounge access, depending on the plan you’re on. Revolut Lounge Passes are provided in partnership with LoungeKey Pass and each pass will give you a single entry to any of the supported lounges for a given time and date in the future. If you’re travelling with a friend, you can purchase a Lounge Pass for yourself and your travel companion(s) directly from the Revolut app.
Smart Delay is an awesome new feature that gives you complimentary lounge passes (to over 1,000 lounges worldwide) if your flight is delayed by more than one hour. I haven’t had to use it yet, but the Revolut website says that all you have to do is input your flight details in the app, and they will keep track of your flight’s departure time.
Unfortunately, Smart Delay is currently only available to Premium and Metal customers, but for the £6.99 OR £12.99 a month, the benefits are definitely worth it.
Revolut Travel Insurance
If you have a Premium or Metal plan with Revolut, you will also benefit from their travel insurance. Your policy will be covered by White Horse Insurance Ireland DAC, a trusted name in the travel insurance sector with a reputation for providing reliable, effective cover.
To order your physical revolut card you need to:
– Go to the ‘Cards’ tab in the app
– Tap the ‘Add card’ button
– Choose ‘Debit card’ and complete your order.
From there, you will be able to set your card’s PIN, enter your delivery address, and select your delivery method before you proceed to checkout. Here you will also find the cost of the card and/or delivery.
It’s important you make sure your delivery address is correct at this stage.
Yes, if you want to, you can personalise your card. You will need to have selected one of our Plus, Premium, or Metal card designs before you can personalise it and it will cost GBP2.99 (or currency equivalent).
Once your card arrives, you can activate it by making a chip and pin payment at a physical terminal. It can be either a shop terminal or an ATM, it doesn’t matter which.
If you’ve ordered a virtual card, you will not need to activate this and it can be used right away. Remember to activate your card, you must verify your identity first.
Using Revolut you can exchange between AED, AUD, BGN, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, HRK, HUF, ILS, ISK, JPY, MAD, MXN, NOK, NZD, PLN, QAR, RON, RSD, RUB, SAR, SEK, SGD, THB, TRY, USD, ZAR. All you need to do is head to your Accounts tab, by clicking ‘…’ (next to ‘Add money’) and then ‘Exchange’.
The next screen will help you understand what action you are about to do: either buying or selling a currency. You can change this using the arrow.
Nest, select the currencies that you would like to exchange from the drop-down list and then tap the button at the bottom to complete your order immediately.
Revolut uses the real exchange rate for foreign exchange (FX) and for most currencies, they don’t add any markup to it, outside of a small markup on weekends. You will always have the option to view the rate before you make your decision.
The Revolut card is the perfect travel companion – it’s easy to use, secure and offers great value for money. So if you’re planning on travelling this year, make sure you pack your Revolut card! Sign up for yours using my link here: https://revolut.com/referral/kirsty579!JAN1-22-AR
