When it comes to finding plus size workwear it can be difficult to know where to start. There are so many different styles, trends and colours to choose from that you could spend hours looking and still be no closer to finding the perfect office wardrobe. To help, I’ve put together a guide to finding the right workwear for plus size women.
As someone who has worked in several different corporate positions, I’ve had lots and lots of practice when it comes to finding the perfect plus size workwear. Whether it’s attending an important meeting, spending a day in the office or wandering around a trade fair for the day, I’ve tried and tested more workwear than I can count.
With that in mind, here are six handy tips for finding the right workwear for business:
THINK ABOUT PRACTICALITY
An important thing to consider when you’re choosing your workwear is what kind of activities you’re going to be doing whilst you’re working. If you’re going to be spending the entire day on your feet then you don’t want to be wearing heels all day. Similarly, if you’re spending the day in the office at your desk, you may want to consider something with a loose waistline to keep you comfortable.
MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE MEASUREMENTS IF YOU’RE ORDERING ONLINE
If you’re ordering clothes online my best advice is to make sure you check the measurements of absolutely every single item. Whilst with most sites they’ll usually be okay, you’ll get a couple of places where the sizing is completely off (Shein is one example that comes to mind).
If you’re unsure, check it and then check it again to be safe.
FIND A STYLE THAT MAKES YOU FEEL CONFIDENT
Before I started featuring fashion on my blog I didn’t really realise quite how many different styles of workwear there are out there. From midi dresses to matching co-ords – the amount of choice you have is endless.
Whilst I’d love to be able to wear absolutely every single style of clothing there is, I have found that it is much better to find your own personal style. It’s taken me a couple of years of trial and error but now I know my style, shopping is so much easier as I naturally know what style I feel confident in. REMEMBER THAT BRANDS SIZE DIFFERENTLY
When choosing your plus size workwear it’s important to remember that not all brands have the same sizing. Your best bet is to try a couple of different sizes in the same piece, that way you can make the decision as to which one is the best fit. This is especially important if you’re shopping across a couple of different stores.
SHOP AROUND AND TRY EVERYTHING ON
Although I do most of my shopping online, sometimes it is much easier to go into a store to try things on before I buy them. I love doing this as it gives me more of a chance to try styles I probably wouldn’t try normally, but also encourages me only to buy the things I really love.
IF YOU LOVE IT, WEAR IT
My most important piece of advice is if you love something, wear it. I know it can be hard to be plus size and not to worry about what people think, but honestly, 99% of the time you’ll look absolutely INCREDIBLE in your workwear so make sure you own it.
Whilst finding plus size workwear can be difficult, now is a great time to experiment with your style. You may be surprised by what you find.
