A couple of weeks ago I was invited to the launch of a brand new restaurant – Novello Lounge Telford.
I was obviously very excited as it’s not often we get something new in Telford, especially something involving tapas and cocktails.
The launch was absolutely amazing, I took my family and we had a great night and by the looks of it everyone else did too. The vibe was so relaxed and chilled out, I loved it.
Flash forward to a few weeks after the launch night and Novello invited me back to review a sit-down meal, rather than just the tapas that was served at the opening.
I decided to make a night of it so I invited my sister and after a long day shopping in Merry Hill, we headed to hers to get ready and have a few drinks before meeting my cousin at Novello.
When we got there I was a little surprised to see that you have to go to the bar to order your drinks and food. I always feel that this devalues a restaurant or and makes it feels like a spoons or Yates’s. After a while though I realised that this was probably my least favourite thing about the place and that’s saying a lot, as I am hard to please!
As we had been drinking wine while getting ready we sat down and looked at the food menu before ordering drinks. I like that it’s a small, simple menu as sometimes there is just too much choice. My boyfriend can vouch for this as I take WAY too long to choose.
I ordered the Hero burger and a Long Island Iced Tea (because two and a half shots of alcohol), which would have cost me around £17.
While we waited for our food we noticed that the table next to use had a game of Connect 4, so we asked where they got it. Novello has a kids corner with loads of different games you can take to your table and play including Monopoly, Jenga, and chess. How amazing is that?
I grabbed Jenga however as I am terrible at it I let my sister and cousin play until the table next to us wanted to swap us for Connect 4. Turns out I am just as bad at that.
I think what sets Novello apart from your usual bar is (other than the vibe) is the difference in the quality of food, for pretty much a similar price. The Hero burger was actually really nice, if only a little bit small. It wasn’t too spicy and the chipotle mayo on it was absolutely delicious, I wish I could have taken a jar of it home with me.
After our main meal, we ordered another cocktail and some desserts. They were out of the Chocolate Brownie so I had the Sticky Toffee Pudding instead but it was so sickly sweet I couldn’t eat it all. It was delicious, though, just a lot bigger than I was expecting it to be based on the size of the burger.
The last drink I had was a Kamari Sunrise, which is a mix of vodka, raspberries, and lemonade. It was lovely!
Overall I am really impressed with Novello and I will 100% be going back. I love how chilled it is and that you can get a decent meal at a good price, at the same time as playing old school games at your table! The vibe was great, the staff were on point and the service was incredible.
Thanks for a lovely evening, here’s to becoming a regular!
Lots of love,
