How To Pack Light 101

June 19, 2019

How many times have you gone on a trip and realised you don’t need half of what you put in your suitcase? Packing light is a skill, one that we all need to learn. It saves a lot of hassle when you’re travelling to different destinations and have to lug around big bags. It also saves you a lot of time when you’re packing or unpacking. Today, we’ll be looking at the different techniques on how to pack light so you can make the most out of your vacation.

Make use of packing cubes

Packing cubes are one of the best-kept secrets of the travelling world. They help keep our luggage organised while saving space. If you want to save even more on space, you should invest in compression cubes, like this set from Amazon. They’re airtight lightweight bags that really help in keeping your stuff compact. Make sure to roll your clothes before putting them inside the cube containers to maximise your space even more.

Find lightweight items

Whenever you’re packing, be mindful of bringing lightweight and compressible items. A good microfibre towel, for example, is one of the best investments you can make. Aside from being easy to pack, they also dry impeccably fast so you never have to deal with the inconvenience of packing a wet towel. Bringing a lightweight scarf is also advisable since it can double as a beach blanket or a cover-up.

Pack flexible clothes

Lessen the number of clothes you bring by finding multi-purpose pieces of clothing – clothes that can be used for the most casual to the most formal of occasions. Finding a flexible pair of trousers is a good way to do this since you can dress up or down depending on your top. Woman Within’s 7-day knit trousers are a perfect example of versatile bottoms that can be styled both for a night out and for a relaxing stroll around your holiday destination. That way, there’s no need to bring separate clothes for different occasions. Another tip by New York Times is to pack clothes in three coordinating colours. This way, you can mix and match your clothing perfectly.

Packing electronics

Trip Savvy reminds us to leave voltage-specific devices, heavy converters and bulky chargers at home. Aside from your most necessary devices, there are two essential things to pack for electronics: a multi-country adapter and a three-way splitter plug. This way you can keep all your devices powered up wherever you are using a small contraption that can easily fit in your carry-on. For anything important when it comes to electronics, there is usually an app for that. Whether it’s watching TV shows, listening to music or finding your way, you can do everything on one handy mobile device. To find out more about mobile apps developers, you can visit this site here.

Minimise the shoes

Flip-flops are hands down the most useful and versatile footwear to take on a plane. They hardly take up space, are great for the beach, and can work as ‘house slippers’ for your hotel room. Trainers are also good for walking around. If you want something more dressy, foldable Yosi Samra ballet flats are the perfect compressible shoes. When packing, remember to place your shoes near the bottom of your suitcase because the heaviest items should be concentrated on the bottom. This makes it so much easier to carry around.
