My Future Home Office Plans

December 1, 2016

A couple of months ago me, my boyfriend and Dexter (my cat) moved into a three bedroom house. Yep, we moved from renting a two bedroom so that we could have one bedroom each. Okay, not really, but it does mean that I got to have a spare room ALL to myself – which could only mean one thing – I GET TO HAVE A HOME OFFICE.

I have been dreaming of having a home office for as long as I can remember so as soon as we moved I started making plans. I bought a white desk, pinned practically everything office related on Pinterest and started buy all the pretty prints to go on my walls.

As I moved so close to the run up to Christmas it meant that I haven’t been able to spend as much money on getting my office exactly how I want it, but I do want to share my plans with you so that we can all be excited together. No? Just me who gets excited over office furniture and stationery then…

White walls

At the moment the spare beroom is painted beige (YUCK) and is on the thinest wallpaper ever – I think it’s called lining paper? It looks vile so I am planning on going over this with white paper to give it a really bright and modern look. It’s a pretty small room so I reckon a plain wallpaper will make it feel bigger than it actually is. That’s how it works, right?

I actually think that the one thing at the top of my wishlist right now (even higher than Charlotte Tilbury Glastonberry but don’t tell anyone) is a bookshelf – the IKEA Billy Bookcase to be exact. The white case will fit in perfectly with my white, rose gold and pastel theme, not to mention the fact it has become a major blogger staple in an office. My books are currently all over the place and taking up a lot of my desk space, so I feel like I will be much more relaxed and ready to work if they are not making a mess everywhere.

MORE Art Prints

Yep, I want more prints. I know it may seem like I have enough, but I really really don’t. I am planning on covering both the wall I am facing when sat at my desk and the one to the right of it, so it will be like a little corner full of cute art prints.

Although I love how they add colour to my room I think my favourite thing about them is the motivational sayings that have on them. Looking at things that say ‘Don’t be afraid of being different’ or Believe in yourself and you be unstoppable’ while I work really helps to motivate me! Everyone needs a little pick me up every now and again and this definitely works for me.

Sofa and Coffee Table

My desk and bookshelf combined won’t take up a lot of room in the office so to fill the other half I would LOVE a white two seater sofa and a small white coffee table. I love the idea that if I am getting fed up of sitting at my desk and working I can take a break and lounge around on my sofa while catching up on a bit of Netflix. Sitting at your desk for too long without taking a break means you are more likely to be prone to slouching – if you’ve got a bad back like me that is the last thing you want.

The sofa will kit out with some fluffly pastel and metalic rose gold cushions, with a couple of candles in the centre of the coffee table. Heaven!

I have been saying for a while now that I need somewhere to start filing all my press releases and other blogging bits as I am strarting to get snowed under with paperwork and most of it just sits on my desk or floor until I need it. To stop the mess and to help me feel better about my office space I have my eye on the Four Drawer Tully filing cabinets from Furniture at Work. They fit in perfectly with my colour scheme and would give me more than enough space to store press releases, products I need to photograph and any other invoices/paperwork I may have.

My boyfriend will probably argue that this should have been the first thing on my list as for the last two months I have been using his because of my bad back. #Sorrynotsorry.

Until I started working in an office I didn’t realise how important a good chair is to your posture but oh my god do I need to invest in a decent chair if I am going spend every night sat typing away in my office. To help avoid any further back pain I know I need to invest in chair that is height adjustable, has a backrest, can swivel and has handles to adjust the back rest if needed.

What would you have in your perfect office?

I’m so jealous, I’ve always wanted a home office, but my partner has commandeered the only spare room in our house for a man cave/office so I have to do all my work from the sofa! 🙁
