A Nature Lover’s Guide to Australia

September 20, 2018

Australia’s eco-system is one of the most diverse on the planet. It features some of the world’s cutest wildlife and some of the most deadly. The landscape varies from tropical rainforests and pristine beaches to dry rural landscapes. There are so many must-see sights in Australia it’s hard to choose between them. Below we will endeavour to provide an overview of some we think you’d be mad to miss.

The Great Barrier Reef For Sea Lovers

One of Australia’s best-known attractions, the Great Barrier Reef is the ultimate experience for all you sea lovers. Featuring an array of beautiful coral and amazing marine life, it’s the world’s largest coral reef. As one of the seven wonders of the natural world, it should feature heavily on most people’s bucket list.

You can enjoy a variety of activities, including snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, hiking, swimming with dolphins, and even a spot of whale watching. The fact the area is surrounded by tropical islands with beautiful beaches and lush landscapes is a bonus that doesn’t go unnoticed.

Fraser Island For Explorers And Adventurers

The largest sand island in the world covers an area of over 184,000 hectares. The island provides a mosaic of different landscapes, from 250km of white sandy beaches to 40km of unbelievably colourful cliffs. With such an expansive area to explore it’s important to stop in a location that provides a good base for heading out in different directions each day, such as Happy Valley, which provides the convenience and facilities you’d expect in any ideally placed resort location.

In 1992, it was officially listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site because of its outstanding natural beauty and significant examples of geological processes and biological evolution. Visitors are expected to follow the island’s eco code, as all of the nearly 50 species of mammals, 354 species of birds, varied marine life and fauna all play a crucial role in its continued evolution. A guided tour with a group and a knowledgeable guide can be a great way to explore Fraser Island.

The Daintree For Bird Lovers

The Daintree is home to unique plant life and tropical fauna you can’t see anywhere else in the world, which makes it a once-in-a-lifetime holiday destination. Thought to be one of the world’s oldest rainforests, it’s not surprising to discover it’s a bird lover’s paradise. Whether you decide to take in the sites from a high-speed zip line or a boat cruising along the river, there is something to cater to for all tastes and paces.

An area so rich in natural beauty offers a diverse range of attractions for visitors to enjoy. They include the bat house at Cape Tribulation, horse riding, 4×4 tours, jungle surfing zip line tours, and the Mossman Markets that are held every Saturday. There are literally activities and options for every age and taste.

Australia offers many more options that are equally as amazing. While the wildlife is varied and amazing, you can even mix your travel itinerary up to include a day or two in one of the big cities. Here you can soak up the art and culture of the local population and discover the human history of the area as well as the natural one.
