I have only been to Italy once but it is definitely somewhere I want to explore more of as it was so beautiful. For our first Valentines together four years ago, my boyfriend took me to Venice in the Emilia Romagna region and (despite the rain) it was an amazing weekend. I’ve always wanted to go back and now that I’m planning lots of little city breaks for a year of travel the temptation is so strong.
So, to help me reminise and to celebrate their new range of Italian holidays, Inntravel sent me a dreamy hamper full of foodie goodies from Italy. One of these newly added holidays is the Italian food adventure, a self-guided tour through the Emilia Romagna region, which includes the fine cities of Parma, Modena, Bologna and an optional grand finale in dazzling Venice. Lets be real though, why wouldn’t you want to end your trip in Venice?
So that I felt like I was enjoying my own Italian food adventure without having to leave my house, the hamper included Piadina Romagnola, Prosciutto Riserva, Parmigiano Reggiano, Tortelloni Ricotta & Spinach, Marrons glaces, Mutti Tomato Puree, Balsamic Vinegar from Modena, Cocoa Cake Mix and Lambrusco Rosso.
We decided to have the cheese, ham and flat bread together as a ‘sort-of’ starter with a glass of Lambrusco (although it was a glass of sicilian lemonade for me because hello dry January). Then for mains we cooked the tortelloni pasta with the tomato puree and added MORE of the Parmesan cheese. For dessert I made the cocoa cake mix, which was SO GOOD I might have to hunt down a place in the UK that I can buy it, or bring back a suitcase fullnext time I visit Italy…
The whole Italian food adventure was so fun to do and I can only imagine how amazing it would be to experience it while travellling through Italy. I know from experience that the food there is beautiful and as a novice cook I can’t imagine I did it much justice – so to taste everything when it has been properly cooked would be an absolute dream.
Although I couldn’t enjoy the wine the Inntravel tour includes a stay a wine estate which would be absolute heaven once dry January is over, especially as Italy is where I discovered my true love for sweet wine.
