Although travel has been few and far between this year, I was lucky enough to squeeze in a trip to Newquay at the end of Summer. Things were obviously a little different, it was great to spend time visiting somewhere different for a couple of days.
As I travelled with my boyfriend, who is a part of my household, the whole weekend basically ended up being filled with cute date ideas. We did as many pandemic-friendly things as we could in the short space of time we had and honestly, it was so refreshing to slow things down while on a trip together.
Although we were only there for a couple of days, I thought I’d share some of the fun things we got to do together, just in case you’re in the area planning your own Cornwall dating adventures.
Whether you’re going on a first date or you’re looking for dating ideas for you and your partner, there’s something for everyone in Newquay.
Go For A Beginners Surfing Lesson
This was hands down my favourite experience of the whole trip and honestly, I’d recommend it to anyone visiting the Cornwall area. Whether you’ve never been surfing before or you’ve had a couple of lessons in the past, grabbing a wet-suit and surfboard and spending a few hours ‘riding the waves’ is such a fun way to spend time with your date. It’s good fun, a little bit unique and definitely something you’ll remember for years to come!
If you’re plus size and looking for a surf school that has wetsuits to accommodate you, I can’t recommend Newquay Activity Centre enough.
Watch The Sunset On The Beach
This is a given, especially if you’re staying somewhere that is known for their INCREDIBLE sunsets. Things were a little chaotic during our trip timing-wise and so we were incredibly lucky to catch a sunset on our second night in Newquay. We happened to be walking in the right place at the right time and as the sun started to go down, we thought we’d stay and watch it. There was absolutely no one on the beach below and it felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. Whether this is a first date idea or your 100th sunset together, I can guarantee you the feeling will never get old.
Sample Cyder At Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm
If you’re a lover of cyder like me, Cornwall dating is not complete without a trip to Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm. With the opportunity to ride around the vineyards on an old tractor and 12 different drinks to sample in the main gift shop, you could easily spend hours wandering around and enjoying a couple of drinks together. We ended up having a Cornish Cream Tea and a pint of cyder, putting the world to rights as we enjoyed the Cornish delicacy.
Grab Some Fish and Chips And Choose Somewhere With A View To Enjoy Them
What’s a trip to the seaside without some fish and chips? Luckily there are lots of places to grab yourself a ‘chippy tea’ in Newquay, most of which are just a short distance from the beach. We made the most of out of ours and drove up to a viewpoint over the ocean, enjoying our dinner from the warmth of the car. If we had been there under different circumstances and we didn’t have to socially distance, we definitely would have found a bench outside so we could enjoy the sea breeze too.
If you want to enjoy fish and chips with a great view, Rick Stiens restaurant on Fistral Beach is also a great place to go! With a balcony that overlooks the beach, you can have the best of both worlds.
Go For A Romantic Meal At The Headland Hotel
Okay, okay, I’m cheating a little here because I didn’t *actually* go to the Headland Hotel for a romantic meal but it is something I’ve always wanted to do (even more so since I found out it was the filming location for the original The Witches movie).
With an incredible exterior and beautiful interior, this is truly one of the best places to go for a date in Newquay, especially if you’re looking to impress the person you’re with. If you want to stay the night, prices for rooms start at around £400 per night…
Maybe one day?
Have you ever been to Newquay before? What would you suggest for someone looking for date night ideas while visiting? I’d love to know if there’s anything I missed!
