Last year me and Nate made friends with our FIRST EVER couple friends! I know, I know. We probably should have done this a lot sooner into our 8-year relationship but for one reason or another, it just never happened.
Typically, just as we started getting to know our new found friends, the pandemic hit.
We JUST ABOUT made it to their wedding in March and after that, we had to find ways to ‘double date’ from a distance (especially as we don’t live close by to one another).
It was definitely difficult to begin with, but we soon started to get into the swing of lockdown parties and hang outs online.
As I know lots of people are going to be looking for date inspiration this time of year, I thought I’d share some of my favourite virtual date ideas:
Host a Watch Party With Your Favourite Movie
There are so many different ways to host watch parties online so if you want to watch a movie together, you absolutely can.
Although you may spend most of the time sitting there silently and watching, the option is there to discuss the movie if you want to! All you need to do is grab some of your favourite snacks and set a date and time!
Once the movie is over, you can even hop on zoom to discuss all of your favourite bits!
Two of the best places to host watch parties is on Netflix and Facebook.
Put On A Quiz Night
This has definitely been one of my favourite ways to double date during the pandemic, especially as it usually ends up with us all being ridiculously drunk trying to answer difficult general knowledge questions.
One of the difficulties we have had hosting a quiz with just two team is that it’s hard to find quizzes where you can’t immediately see the answers. While it takes longer to organise and set up, it’s a rewarding way to spend an evening together (especially if you win!).
Usually, we have a couple of rounds, have a few drinks and then have a few more rounds. Before we know it, a good four or five hours have passed.
For those that are on a first date as part of a double or group date, this is a great way to get to know someone you haven’t met in person yet. This means if you’ve met someone on a site such as West Midlands Dating, you’ll be able to get them involved in your double date to help break the ice!
Play Some Music and Have A Drink
If you miss having a good old fashion dance party, there’s nothing to say you can’t do it over Zoom. All you need to do is choose one couple to be the ‘hosts’ and then they can play music through their computer.
Grab yourself a couple of drinks and spend the evening talking, dancing and having fun.
Cook A Meal Together
Finally, why not order the same ingredients as one another and all cook a meal together? You can all have a laugh while you’re cooking and once done, you’ll have the benefit of enjoying the delicious meal you’ve just cooked! With lots of meal kits online to choose from, you can cook absolutely anything!
Although it may be some time before we can go on double dates together, there are lots of alternatives that are making the lockdown that little bit easier. It’s not quite the same, but I always feel a sense of love and warmth after a double date!
