Top Tips For Finding The Right Plus Size Swimwear For Travel
When it comes to finding plus size swimwear it can be difficult to know where to start. There are so many different styles, cuts and colours to choose from that you could spend hours looking and still be no closer to finding the perfect piece for your travels. To help, I’ve put together a guide to finding the right plus size swimwear for travel.
As someone who regularly travels to warm countries, I’ve had lots of practice when it comes to finding the person plus size swimwear for lots of different occasions. Whether it’s snorkelling in the Adriatic sea or relaxing by the pool in Bali, I’ve tried and tested more swimwear than I can count.
With that in mind, here are seven handy tips for finding the right plus size swimwear for travel.
Find The Plus Size Swimwear Style That Makes You Feel Confident
Before I started travelling as much as I do I didn’t really realise quite how many different styles of swimwear there are. From tankinis and swim dresses to bikinis and swimming costumes – the amount of choice you have is endless.
Whilst I’d love to be able to wear absolutely every single style of swimwear there is, I have found that I’ve managed to find my own personal swimwear style. It’s taken a couple of years of trial and error (and some major wardrobe malfunctions) but now that I’ve pinned down my style, swimwear shopping is so much easier as I naturally know what style I feel confident in.

Consider The Weather Where You’re Travelling
If you’re going to be taking swimwear away with you, the likelihood is that you’re either travelling to a hot country or a spa. When choosing what swimwear you purchase it definitely helps to consider the weather where you’re travelling as it may determine what you wear. If you’re in an incredibly hot country you may want to consider wearing a tankini or bikini, but if you’re going somewhere that is only a little bit warm a swimming costume or swim dress may be better suited.
If you’re prone to sunburn you may also want to consider wearing something that covers the spots your most likely going to get burnt.
Think About Practicality
An important thing to consider when you’re choosing your swimwear is what kind of activities you’re going to be doing whilst you’re travelling. If you’re going to to be taking part in water sports like snorkelling and surfing, you may not want to wear a bikini or tankini as if you’re anything like me, you’ll end up losing them along the way.

Remember That Plus Size Swimwear Brands Size Differently
When choosing your plus size swimwear it’s important to remember that not all brands have the same sizing. Your best bet is to try a couple of different sizes in the same piece, that way you can make the decision as to which one is the best fit. This is especially important if you’re shopping across a couple of different stores.
If You’re Ordering Online, Make Sure You Check The Measurements
If you’re ordering your swimwear online my best advice is to make sure you check the measurements. Whilst with most sites they’ll usually be okay, you’ll get a couple of places where the sizing is completely off (Shein, I’m looking at you).
If you’re unsure, check it and then check it again to be safe.
Shop Around And Try Things On Before You Decide If You’re Keeping It
Although I do most of my shopping online, sometimes nothing beats going into a store and trying things on before you buy them. I love doing this as it gives me more of a chance to try styles I probably wouldn’t try normally, but also encourages me only to buy the things I really love. When I purchase online I find that even if I don’t *really* love something, I’m more inclined to keep it because I don’t want to go through the effort of returning.
If You Love It, Wear It
My most important piece of advice is if you love something, wear it. I know it can be hard as a plus size traveller not to worry about what people think, but honestly, 99% of the time you’ll look absolutely INCREDIBLE in your swimwear so make sure you own it.
Whilst finding plus size swimwear for travel can be difficult, it’s a great time to experiment with your style and find out exactly what it is you love. You may be surprised what you find.
