European Road Trip Ideas for Travel Enthusiasts

November 15, 2021

Europe is one of the most beautiful places in the world to go on a road trip. Whether traveling by car, bike or even walking, there are many things to see and explore! That’s why we’ve put together this list of European Road Trip Ideas for Travel Enthusiasts. We hope that it will inspire you to plan your next adventure across Europe!

1 Munich, Germany

Munich is a great first stop on your European road trip. If you can’t make it to Oktoberfest, at least take advantage of the beer gardens and Bavarian food! In Munich, there are many different things to do such as The Königsplatz, which has several impressive buildings located around the square, including the Glyptothek museum, where you will find Greek and Roman sculptures, for example; or go see Nymphenburg Palace – this palace was built in 1664–1675 by “Electoral Prince” Max Emanuel. Finally, if you’re up for some shopping, head over to Viktualienmarkt – a must-visit market filled with local produce, artisan bread, and great food. The city is very accessible through the S-Bahn, which connects to Munich International Airport, or if you are traveling by car, then allow for about an hour’s drive from Frankfurt.

2 Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam is such a great place for your European road trip. This city has so much to offer travelers with its famous canals and architecture! There are many things in Amsterdam that you must see: Explore the Red Light District, Anne Frank House (if they are available), The Van Gogh Museum, Jordaan neighborhood which is filled with local shops and restaurants; or take one of these picture-perfect canal cruises. Another nice area of town is Vondelpark, where locals like to relax on sunny days – it’s also home to the open-air theatre known as “Vondeltuin.” Don’t miss out on seeing this beautiful city while you’re traveling through Europe; travel time from Munich will be about four hours.

3 Paris, France

Paris is one of the most famous cities in Europe, so it’s a must-see on your European road trip. The city has great things to do and see: Walk along the Seine River towards Notre Dame Cathedral; visit Musee d’Orsay for an impressive collection of art including works by Degas, Monet, Van Gogh, or head over to Louvre Museum (the largest museum complex in Paris) where you will find some incredible exhibits like Venus de Milo or Winged Victory! You can also take a walk down Boulevard Saint Germain which is filled with little cafes and shops – this area was once home to Hemingway when he lived here during WWI. In addition, you can take one of the best motorcycle tours across Europe to take in some of the most thrilling and cultivating cultures in the world.

4 Milan, Italy

Milan is a fantastic place for your European Road Trip. There are plenty of things to see and do here: The Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral) or La Scala Opera House; Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II – this is an impressive glass-domed arcade filled with shops, cafes…you can’t miss it! Another great attraction in Milan is the Castello Sforzesco, a fortress built by Francesco Sforza back in 1450. This castle also houses several museums inside, such as Pinacoteca Ambrosiana that features works from famous painters like da Vinci and Caravaggio. Regarding shopping, head over to Via Montenapoleone, where you will find some of the best designer shops in all of Italy, or if you enjoy outdoor markets, then Piazza del Duomo is home to one of the oldest markets in Milan. Driving to Milan allows for about two hours’ drives from Paris or one hour’s drive from Amsterdam.

5 Aarhus, Denmark

Aarhus is a fantastic place for your European road trip. This city has so many things to do and see: City Hall Square, The Little Mermaid Statue or the ARoS Art Museum, or how about visiting one of these great beaches! Another nice area in Aarhus is “Indre By,” where you will find plenty of shopping opportunities with its market stalls tucked away down cobbled streets; also, take some time out to visit Tivoli Friheden, which used to be an amusement park but now holds concerts throughout the summer season. And don’t forget that it’s straightforward getting around this beautiful city – follow signs towards Copenhagen (Denmark) since they are only an hour apart by car.

Europe is an excellent place for your European road trip. There are many unique places to visit and things to do when you drive from city to city – make sure that you have the time available to enjoy all of these fantastic attractions!

If you've ever found yourself scrolling through Instagram and all can you see is rows and rows of 'perfect' photos of people travelling well don't worry, because that's definitely not what you're going to find here.I'm a true believer that life is what you make it and although I don't always have the best luck while travelling, it's the thing that fills me with joy. With lots of mistakes, mishaps and chaotic stories behind me, I thought here was the perfect place to share my stories (along with everything I've picked up along the way)
