No7 Colour Match | Calico Beautifully Matte Foundation

As soon as I heard about No7 counters doing a ‘colour matching’ service to match your skin tone to the correct foundation, I knew this was something I had to try at some point. I am really really really pale so I have always bought Ivory foundations shades and recently I feel like this is the completely wrong choice for me, as I still feel a little bit orange wearing them!

Me and my sister were shopping in Boots the other day when we decided to check it out. We had just bought some new foundations but neither of us were convinced they were right and the woman behind the counter suggested we try having our skin tone colour matched! I genuinely thought I would have to book a ‘No7 Colour Match’ appointment, but the woman behind the counter said it only takes a few seconds.

I went first and as I was already wearing makeup she had to wipe off a little bit of my foundation on each side of my face, which I was a little bit unsure about at first. She held a little Match Made device to each side of my face to read my skin colour and match it to one of their foundation shades. She then handed me a little card and told me that I was a match to the shade ‘Calico’ which is the lightest shade in the range.

The little card is actually amazing as it also tells you what shade lipsticks are the best match for your skin tone. My card shows a lot of deep reds and bright pinks, which is not what I would have guessed at all as I usually wear a lot of nudes/pinks because I am not confident enough to wear red lipstick out in public. I am hoping doing this helps me gain that confidence a little and I am definitely going to start wearing shades like this a lot more so I can get used to seeing myself in them.

After I had my colour matched the shop assistant asked me what type of foundations I wear most, so I told her I am a big fan of matte shades at the moment. She got the ‘No7 Beautifully Matte’ in Calico sample and redid my makeup using it. I have to say I was honestly so impressed with how much of a colour match it was and I loved the matte finish, so much so I had to buy myself some! I did try a couple of the lipsticks and swatched all of my other matches on my hand, but I didn’t buy any as I have a little bit of a lipstick overload going on at the moment!

The No7 consultant was absolutely amazing and finished off the rest of my makeup for me and she actually used a completely different shade of blusher to what I would have picked as it was a lot lighter, but it looked great!

The foundation itself is amazing! Although my skin is really pale my cheeks and face go quite red naturally, which I find really difficult to cover up. Beautifully Matte definitely covered up a lot of my redness in comparison to other foundations I used and I absolutely loved the coverage I could get with such a small amount! I also loved its staying power as after a long day of shopping (twice!) it still looked flawless, which is something I think other foundations lack.

Would I recommend trying a No7 Colour Match?

I would definitely recommend going to get your skin tone colour matched as for my whole life I have been buying foundation that is too dark for me just because it looked right when I tried it on my hand! It’s a quick, simple and free service to use and can benefit you so much! The only problem is now, I need to find some foundations that are the same shade as Calico, as I don’t think I can use one foundation for the rest of my life! If you know of any, let me know!

Have you tried a No7 Colour Match before? What was your shade and did you think it was a good match?

Thanks for the post, foundation is one of the trickier make up products to buy, like the idea of it being matched perfectly. Once I have finished my current foundation (No 7) may pop into Boots and give this a try.

I am definitely going to have to give this a go. I've always been going for ivory shades too which I've found a little bit too dark for me. Was it all completely free even when she re-did your make up?
