Hello! I’m Kirsty Leanne, a Pus Size Travel Blogger from the UK!

If you’ve stumbled across this page, you’re probably looking to learn a little bit more about me and how I began my journey and while I’m terrible at talking about myself, my story is something I am incredibly passionate about.

When I first started blogging, I was a Beauty and Lifestyle blogger. It seemed like the most popular niche at the time and as someone who loved writing, I wanted to create content that I knew people would read.

I was definitely interested in what I was writing, but the whole time I felt like my heart wasn’t truly in it.

I had so many other passions, but I told myself that at the time, I didn’t have the right body to make it as a successful blogger in those areas. From travelling to fashion, I didn’t think anyone would be interested because I didn’t look everyone else.

I felt as though I didn’t belong and that no one would take a plus-size travel blogger seriously.

During this time, I was starting to build my confidence in travelling again. After years of telling myself I was too fat to travel, I was taking small trips to help ease myself back into something I once loved. As someone who was scared of practically everything, this was definitely a difficult first step to take.

Sharing My Travel Adventures

Although I was nervous, I decided to document one of my trips here on my blog. I stuck to selfies and pictures of the landscapes and when it came to talking about the issues I faced as a plus-size traveller, I decided to leave them out. I honestly thought nobody would want to listen to what I had to say and told myself that it would hinder any chances I had at becoming a travel blogger…

As I continued to travel, I became more and more confident in sharing my adventures. From trips to Wroclaw with my boyfriend to Amsterdam with the girls, travel content was starting to become a regular feature on both my blog and my Instagram.

I couldn’t help, however, notice that there was a lack of information for plus size travellers on the internet. I wrote a post about what it’s like to travel while far and honestly, it was one of my best performing posts yet.

‘It’s So Refreshing Seeing Someone Like Me Travel The World’

As my plus size travel content started to become more frequent, I started to receive more and more messages from people saying that seeing stories of me traveling was giving them the confidence to travel themselves.

I soon started to realise that I am not alone and at the start of 2018, I decided to start calling myself a fully-fledged Plus Size Travel Blogger.

I made the switch from posting a range of different content to focussing mainly on travel, with a few other topics thrown in for good measure.

This shift in content meant that I was finally posting about something I was truly passionate about and honestly, it’s been the best move that I could ever make.

I spent too long telling myself that I wouldn’t make it as a travel blogger because nobody would take me seriously, not realising that there was an incredible niche within the content I could create for people just like me.

Building My Own Confidence

I had no idea that in starting this journey, I would start to build my own confidence too. Being on a journey of self-love isn’t easy and I can honestly say that since starting my Plus Size Travel Journey, things have changed for my tremendously. While it’s the only journey I’ll take that will never end, it’s also one of my favourite journey’s I have embarked upon.

While I’m not an expert and I’m still very much learning, 2020 saw the start of me sharing posts about my confidence journey here too.

So, What Kind Of Content Can You Expect From Me?

As you probably guess, I mainly cover travel, plus size travel and confidence.

TRAVEL GUIDES AND INSPIRATION – Whether you’re looking for my top places to visit in a specific city or you want a more in-depth piece about something I’ve experienced, I have lots of travel content here for you to enjoy. You may also see a couple of packing guides, tips about budgeting and planning advice.

PLUS SIZE TRAVEL TIPS AND TRICKS – As a plus size traveller, I have lots of tips and tricks for people just like me! From things to avoid to what to expect, I want to share as much as I can here with you! As well as plus size travel, I also regularly cover the importance of diversity and inclusion in the travel industry.

MY CONFIDENCE JOURNEY – I’ve been on my confidence journey for just over four years and after realising that this is going to be one journey that doesn’t have a specific destination, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned along the way. From the good days to the bad, I want to be as honest as I possibly can with you.

STORIES FROM MY ADVENTURES – Storytelling is key and as I have a LOT of stories from my own adventures, I want to share those with you. From the many mistakes I’ve made while travelling to the beautiful moments I couldn’t help but write about, my site is more than just guides and listicles about travel.

Plus Size Travel Too

Although I LOVE posting content that focusses on travelling while fat here on Kirsty Leanne Travels, I wanted to create a space that was all plus size travel, all the time.

So, after a little bit of research and a lot of hard work, I launched the first-ever dedicated site to plus size travel – Plus Size Travel Too.

It’s a community-run site where plus size travellers across the world can submit content and as it grows, I hope it becomes the go-to place for plus size travellers looking for advice and inspiration while travelling.

We have a long way to go, but I’m so proud of how far the site has come so far.

Public Speaking

As well as publishing content both here and on Plus Size Travel Too, I also do a lot of public speaking when it comes to Diversity in Travel.

I have spoken at well-known events in the travel industry, including WTM London, The Social Travel Summit and the Women In Travel Summit. During 2020, I also had the opportunity to speak at London Travel Week.

Get in Touch

If you would like to get in touch with me, I’m more than happy to have a chat! Whether it’s for a feature in a publication or to ask for advice about an upcoming trip, feel free to contact me on [email protected].
