Before the pandemic hit, one of mine and my partners favourite places to visit was Chester. Living in Telford it’s not *too* difficult to get to using public transport and once there, there’s always plenty to do before heading home.
Obviously, we haven’t been able to visit for a while but with talk of restrictions lifting, Cheshire dating is on our mind and it’s one of the first places we’re planning on visiting again.
Chester dating is probably not something you instantly think of when you think of ‘the perfect day trip for couples’ but honestly, it’s somewhere we fall more and more in love with every time we visit. From the epic food scene to the incredible history, I don’t think I’ll ever get bored of exploring this stunning English city.
If you’re nearby and wondering if it’s somewhere you should visit when lockdown starts to ease, here are just a few of the reasons I think it’s the perfect day trip for both couples AND first dates:
The Food Scene Is Incredible
Food is incredibly important when it comes to the perfect day trip, which is why I love Chester so much. The food choices are AH-MAZING.
My favourite, of course, is Hickory’s as this is one of the first places my partner and I visited in Chester and as a result, it’s become a little bit of a tradition for us. With amazing American BBQ food and a view of the river, it’s the perfect place to sit outside with some cocktails and a bite to eat during Summer.
Other great places to eat include Burger Shed 4 1, Covino and The Yard.
It’s Absolutely Stunning
Chester is a great mix of old and new so when you’re walking around, you’ll definitely be snapping cute photos for Instagram every 30 seconds. One of our favourite things to do is walk the city walls as although they’re quite short, it gives you some great views across the city.
There’s SO Much History To Learn
Another great reason to visit Chester is that there is an incredible history behind the city, something I wasn’t aware of until my first-ever visit. Whether you’ve met on a Cheshire dating site or you’ve been dating for a while, learning about the history behind a location is a great bonding experience for everyone.
A Stroll Along The River Is Always Super Romantic
As I live in Telford and regularly visit Shrewsbury, a walk along the river is nothing new to me. In fact, it’s one of my favourites things to do while on date! Chester is no exception as when you’re done walking around the city walls, a walk along the River Dee is a must.
If All Else Fails, There’s Always The Opportunity For A Shopping Spree
Although shopping is not my ideal date, it’s a great way to pass the time when exploring a new city. Whether you’re browsing in stores you may not have at home or you’re looking for something in particular, often just wandering around with your partner can make it that little bit more exciting.
To spice things up, you may even want to try a little TikTok shopping challenge. Using a set budget, you need to find something that they love to eat, love to drink, something that is their favourite colour and something that reminds you of them. At the end of your trip, swap presents to see how well they know you. It’s super thoughtful and a cute way to make the trip extra special.
Although I don’t know how long it’s going to be, I am so excited for my first trip back to Chester this year! It’s been a long time coming and honestly, it couldn’t come quick enough.
