We all want our health to be as good as possible, but unfortunately, bad habits, hectic lives, and a slew of other obstacles have a way of making us push our health to the back-burner.
For many of us, the recent shutdowns and quarantine orders didn’t help matters much either as we ended up spending a lot of times indoors and rediscovering a love for video games instead of focussing on what our body needs, both physically and mentally.
If you’re looking for ways to improve your health and maintain wellness, I have a few tips that you might be interested in.
1. Get Plenty of Sleep
When it comes to your overall wellbeing and self-love, sleep is just as important as exercising and eating healthy. Failing to get six to eight hours of sleep per night can have a major negative impact on your wellness, from increasing your risk of developing high blood pressure and cardiovascular diseases to decreasing your productivity and ability to concentrate.
To get a good night’s rest and increase the quality of your sleep, you need to limit a few things before bedtime, such as:
- Blue Light – Your phone, tablet, eReader, and laptop all emit blue light, and research over the last decade suggests that it does indeed reduce the quality of your sleep. So, put the devices away at least an hour before bed.
Caffeine – If you tend to eat dinner later in the evening and you enjoy having a big glass of tea or soda with it, you may want to cut back. Caffeine has a half-life of three to five hours, meaning it can still affect your sleep late into the night. Try to limit caffeine intake at least six to eight hours before bedtime.
- Alcohol – This is another possible favorite that you need to trim back on. As your body processes the alcohol and the effects wear off, it can limit your ability to fall into a deep sleep, which is important for your wellness.
2. Add a Wellness Staple
One of the first things you need to consider is adding multivitamins to your daily routine.
While they aren’t right for everyone, multivitamins contain vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body. Some studies have shown that they can also possibly help with eye health and brain function.
3. Drink Plenty of Water
While you probably drink plenty of water throughout the day, your body goes completely without hydration for the six to eight hours you’re asleep. Starting your day with a full bottle of purified water can help flush out toxins, give you an energy boost, aid digestion, and even enhance skin health.
4. Take Vitamin D
You can get this essential vitamin simply by stepping outside for at least 30 minutes a day. Whether that’s for jogging, taking a date on a walk, enjoying your exercise routine outside, or just chilling in the park with a good book, getting some natural vitamin D every day is another great “best practice” for wellbeing.
5. Listen To Your Body
For most people, there are certain foods that can make you feel sluggish and tired. Whether it’s gluten and dairy or sugar and sweeteners, learning what your body reacts to is important.
Improving your overall wellness doesn’t have to consume your life; you just have to listen to your body and determine what is good for you and what isn’t. Whether that’s finding an intolerance, starting to exercise, or just taking multivitamins, you will soon start to pick up patterns that benefit your body.
