Falling In Love with my Home | Living Room Makeover

Last July I moved for what felt like the 1 millionth time, but most definitely the last for a long time.

Me and my boyfriend are currently renting a house while we save for our own place, meaning we’re planning to stay where we are for the foreseeable future. Luckily, my landlord is very relaxed on decorating and we can do whatever we want to the house providing it’s tasteful.

When we moved in all of the main rooms were decorated with a very bold feature wall, then lining paper that had been painted a horrible shade of cream on the other walls. I knew I wanted to decorate most rooms before I even said yes to the house to the house, so the last few months have involved lots and lots (and lots) of Pinterest searching to create my dream house.

Obviously there is a limit to what I can do as I don’t own the house, but I am so pleased with how my first little project has turned out so far especially as this was the first time I have decorated EVER.

As it’s the room we spend most time in and the room that guests see first we decided to start with the living room, despite me really wanting to do the bedroom. I went with a light grey theme as I thought it would be a easy to colour to match with different pastels if we ever fancied a little bit of change. Inspired Wallpaper very kindly provided me with the wall paper I needed to do the whole room, so I went with the Crown Calico Leaf Stone Washed Floral Paper for the feature wall and the Crowd Cotton Tweed Stone Washed Plain Paper for the rest of the room.

My parents very kindly came over to show me what to do and help (if you’re reading, thank you), however, I didn’t pick it up as well as my boyfriend who I think now has a new talent. One thing my Mum did say was that I had picked good wallpaper as it’s one where you put the paste on the wall rather than on the paper itself. I can’t imagine how much (more) paste I’ve have been covered in if I had to do it that way 😉

The wallpaper went on easily (for my Mum, Dad and Boyfriend anyway) and I can’t beleive how amazing it looks now it is done. It’s so much better than what I was expecting. We switched the feature walls around as we thought it should be the wall we’re facing when sat on the sofa and I think it looks much nicer that way - it’s also covered up some of the dents/marks that were on that wall from the previous tenants.

Once the decorating was done I had to get some finishing touches, as most of the ‘accessories’ I had were green to match the previous colour scheme. I got a new Otisse rug from Dunelm in a charcoal grey to add a little more depth to the room, but also to match the new charcoal curtains I got from Argos. Next on my list are some new grey cushions and lamp shades, maybe I’ll get them next month…

Other things that were added to help complete the room were the mirror (kindly given to me by my Nan) and my grey fleece Primark blanket that I had for Christmas.

So, before I ramble on for another half an hour - here are the before and after pictures!

Thee are still a few little bits that I need to do to complete the living room but I am so happy with how it turned out! I can’t wait to start decorating more rooms.

Your room looks lovely! It’s so nice being able to decorate it how you want isn’t it?!
